The Centre’s Administration team is responsible for the provision of finance, personnel, logistic and grant support for the Wellcome Africa and Asia Programmes and Oxford based groups. The team is led by the Business Manager and is based in the Nuffield Department of Medicine research Building based on the University's Old Road Campus in Headington. The Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health is part of the Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) which is part of the University’s Medical Sciences Division.

Business Manager

Ed leads the Centre's administration, including financial planning, HR and risk management. He works closely with the Unit Directors, Chief Operating Officers & group leads based in the Centre's programmes in Kenya, Thailand and Viet Nam as well as those groups based at the Centre in Oxford.  He supports the strategic management and direction of the Centre and sits on central University committees and focus groups.

Paul Hogben

Finance Manager

Paul’s oversees the financial portfolio of the Centre and is responsible for the purchase to export function, advances function and reporting. He line both the accounts and the P to E teams and is responsible for overseeing the advancing and reconciling of research funding to the Wellcome Africa and Asia Programme's as well as sponsor reporting.

Bethany manages all aspects of Human Resources within the Centre; including recruitment, induction, leavers, visas, overseas allowances, job grading, annual leave, sickness, absence and payroll.

Shabana works within the HR Team. Her responsibilities include supporting the Senior HR Officer with recruitment, new starters and managing the probation and PDR process. She is involved in inducting new starters in to the department and maintaining personnel files. Shabana also provides support with Payroll and casual workers. She monitors the tropical personnel inbox and deals with HR queries regarding annual leave and sickness.

Lois works within the HR Team supporting the Senior HR Officer with managing payroll and allowances. She is also involved with managing the probation and PDR processes. Additionally, Lois supports staff taking maternity, paternity and adoption leave. Lois, along with Shabana, monitors the tropical personnel inbox, annual leave and other absence. She is also involved in HESA return and ensuring data quality.

Janine is responsible for all aspects of administration relating to the Oxford based research groups including tGHN, WWARN and ERGO/ISARIC. She supports grants administration for those groups including pre and post award, setting up research agreements and overseeing the group's finances.

Logistics Manager

John sources equipment, consumables and other goods such as software, providing advice on suppliers and prices. He purchases goods on the Centre’s researcher’s instructions and either arranges for them to be delivered direct or stores, packs and exports the goods from the UK Centre. He also conducts tender exercises in order to ensure value for money.

Claire-Lise promotes the research done at the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, both in our Africa and Asia Programmes and Oxford. Her role includes managing, maintaining and updating the Centre's website, helping with researchers' profile and publication lists, managing the Centre's social media feeds, developing and promoting podcasts, and liaising with NDM, MSD and the University Press Office. She works closely with communications staff across the MOP’s and Oxford to ensure that research activities are promoted as widely as possible.

Sarah works as Personal Assistant to the Thailand Wellcome Programme Director (Professor Nick Day). Her role involves administrative support, and liaison with colleagues and organisations both at Oxford and abroad. In addition she assists with organisation and facilitation of international scientific conferences (e.g. for Oxford Tropical Network - OTN) and other event planning. As well as email correspondence, meeting arrangements, diary management, website editing and travel and logistical coordination. Sarah is an Overseas Student Officer looking after DPhil students from abroad.

Kim is a contact point for visitors and staff at the Peter Medawar and provides support for IHTM MSc, AFOX, OHSCAR and NDM Finance. Her responsibilities include supporting day to day administrative tasks for the Oxford Centre staff based in Peter Medawar and Kenya staff based in KEMRI. Kim is a PA to AFOX director and OHSCAR director and also works as a cover for the Finance Assistant to support the NDM Finance team with accounts, journals, claims, finance weekly reports, purchase orders, advanced payments and invoices.
