Claudia Turner, Senior Research Paediatrician at the Cambodia Oxford Medical Research Unit (COMRU), begins on 21 April as Strategic Director for the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC), where COMRU is hosted in Siem Reap.
"I am very excited to be taking up such a challenging role at the Angkor Hospital for Children, an amazing institution that provides free quality healthcare to impoverished Cambodian children. The predominantly Cambodian staff are a dedicated, skilled team and I am very pleased to be joining them to move the hospital forward over the next five years," says Claudia.
An Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, Claudia moved in October 2012 to Siem Reap, Cambodia to set up COMRU with Paul Turner. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2012 Claudia worked at the Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU), where she completed her PhD.
Claudia will continue to work at COMRU one day a week. This will include supervising COMRU’s Sotnikum Village Survey to estimate the district's neonatal and infant mortality and the Health Perceptions and Beliefs in the Neonatal Period, a qualitative study funded by a Ethox Global Health Bioethics Network Bursary that interviews mothers and community members to provide the background needed to conduct a future community intervention study to reduce neonatal mortality.
