The Oxford Health Systems Collaboration OHSCAR
The Nuffield Department of Medicine has recently helped support a new initiative that is working towards strengthening Health Systems Research in Kenya. This is hoped to be a starting point for enabling scientists from Oxford to create new knowledge with African colleagues and build capacity in global health while promoting the bi-directional transfer of knowledge between Oxford and Africa.
Inadequate health systems make many existing and potential future health interventions impotent. Nowhere are such effects more apparent than in Africa which continues to post the worst health indicators globally. Priority will be given first to build on existing expertise and opportunities for strengthening health systems research between Oxford and Kenya. Over time OHSCAR shall harness the wide expertise available across Oxford University to build an inclusive research collaboration focused on African Health Systems Research.
Opportunities exist in areas of research including (but not limited to): social science, health economics, knowledge translation, quality of care, service delivery, implementation research, health informatics; complementing the work of over 40 scientists in Kenya
