Sasha Shepperd: there is no evidence that using tap water (compared with normal saline or no cleansing) to clean acute wounds in adults increases infection and some evidence that is reduces it (30 studies). In the absence of safe tap water, boiled and cooled water as well as distilled water can be used as wound cleansing agents.
