Andrew Simpson
Consultant Clinical Microbiologist
Andrew Simpson is a Clinical Microbiologist with the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital Wellcome Research Unit in Vientiane (LOMWRU), where he works on a variety of infections of importance to public health in Laos. Previously he has worked for Oxford University in Bangkok, and has held posts with both DSTL and Public Health England in the UK.
He has long had a research interest in laboratory and clinical aspects of melioidosis (Burkholderia pseudomallei infection) and plans to continue to develop this, as well as environmental aspects. He is also interested in antimicrobial resistance, leptospirosis, streptococci and CNS infections, as well as wide variety of other bacterial and viral infections. In addition, he is interested in helping to build clinical and research laboratory capacity in the Lao PDR.
