Julie Huynh

Honorary Visiting Research Fellow in Tropical Paediatrics

Paediatric Infectious Diseases

Dr Julie Huynh is a honorary visiting research fellow in tropical paediatrics at OUCRU HCMC with research interests in global health, clinical trials and improving diagnostics in LMICs. She has worked in Vietnam and other countries in Asia. She specialises in the diagnosis and management of childhood tuberculosis (TB), in particular TB meningitis. She leads the SURE trial, a TB treatment study for children with TB meningitis, as well as the INTERCEPT study, which uses integrative omics and aspirin response to define therapeutic targets for paediatric TB meningitis.

Her PhD research, titled ‘Improving the diagnosis and prognosis of TB meningitis in children’, focused on identifying specific host immune signatures as diagnostic biomarkers of disease and on understanding better the link between systemic inflammation and neuroimaging features. Dr Huynh was a co-lead author on the 2025 International TB meningitis guidelines. Her research is integral to advancing both the clinical management and understanding of TB meningitis in children.
