Dr. Julius S.M. Gilayeneh, Sr. is a Liberian Medical Doctor and public health practitioner with experience and expertise in tropical medicine, infectious diseases epidemiology, epidemic preparedness and response, and health system leadership gleaned through over nine years of progressive experience in preventive and curative health services across multiple settings. He is an alumnus of the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford. Dr. Gilayeneh is currently the Deputy Director General for Technical Services and Chief Scientist at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) where he provides oversight and supervision over Liberia’s Disease Surveillance and Emergency Preparedness and Response Systems, in-country Public Health and Medical Bio-Medical Research, Laboratory diagnosis and Quality Standards at the National Public Health Reference Laboratory, Public Health Workforce Capacity Building, as well as Environmental and Occupational Health. He formerly served as Deputy Program Manager for the National Malaria Control Program in Liberia and Head for Epidemic Preparedness and Response at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia.
