Richard Idro

Dr Idro is a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University School of Medicine and Consultant Paediatrician/Paediatric Neurologist at Mulago, the teaching hospital for Makerere University. He is also the President, Uganda Medical Association.

 

Dr Idro leads a paediatric neuroscience group in Uganda. His group is studying the pathogenesis and interventions to improve the outcomes of children exposed to central nervous system infections, childhood epilepsy, and malaria chemoprophylaxis and prevention of stroke in children sickle cell anaemia. He is a Medical Research Council (UK) 2015 African Research Leadership Awardee (through which he is studying the pathogenesis and treatment of nodding syndrome) and the Inaugural Greenwood Africa (2019) Awardee. He sits on Boards of the International League against Epilepsy and the International Child Neurology Association.
