© 2017, Springer International Publishing AG. We model the evolution of bone mineral density measurements in a cohort of HIV-infected persons by DXA scans. We define the minimum T-score (MTS) from the DXA measures at four different sites and propose a disease progression model for the transitions between three different health states: normal, osteopenia, and osteoporosis. A linear mixed model for the MTS is fitted, the estimated ages at osteopenia and osteoporosis onset are imputed, and the transition probabilities between the states are estimated.
