About us

The Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health is a world leading Centre within the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, comprised of research groups permanently based in Africa and Southeast Asia as well in Oxford. Our research ranges from clinical studies to behavioural sciences, with capacity building integral to all of our activities.

Our research is conducted at three Wellcome Programmes in Kenya, Thailand and Viet Nam, and in the NDM Centre for Global Health Research in Oxford. We also brings together a number of sister groups in Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Nepal, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as multiple collaborators around the world.

Our Programmes focus on national health priorities and operate in close alignment with in-country host institutions. These are among the largest-scale and most enduring research facilities supported by any UK university overseas.

Besides conducting research into infectious diseases, from basic research and diagnostics development to drug discovery, clinical trials and implementation, we run training programmes for research scientists.
