Useful travel information when arriving by plane

We  suggest booking your flights in and out of London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW) as both airports have bus and train transport links to Oxford.

Bus transfers

The most convenient way to travel from London Heathrow and Gatwick Airports is to take the Airline bus. Once you have collected your baggage please follow the signs to the bus station.

Tickets: you will need to purchase a period return ticket, which allows a return within three months. You can also pay with bank card or Euros or US Dollars for the tickets but only notes are accepted (no coins). Alternatively you can purchase tickets at least 36 hours in advance, or via the Oxford Bus Company app.

Frequency of Buses: every 30 minutes or so. Journey time one-way: approx. 80-90 minutes.

Please alight at the "Headington shops" bus stop. From there you can walk to the Centre for Tropical Medicine (20 minutes) or take a taxi if you have lots of luggage.

To call a taxi: dial 001 Taxis on +44 (0)1865 240000 or Royal Cars on +44 (0)1865 777333. Ask the taxi driver to pick you up on Kennett Road to take you to the NDM Research Building (OX3 7FZ) or to the WTCHG Building (OX3 7BN) at Old Road Campus.
