Professor Susanna Dunachie ran a stall called “Tropical Laboratory” at SS Philip and James Primary School in Jericho, for their Science Fair on the 6th April 2017.

Children pretend to be scientists

Children aged 4-11 dressed up in lab coats and goggles to test “patient samples” for Zika (using reagents made from kitchen ingredients), looked at mosquitoes and malaria down the microscope, dressed up in personal protection equipment to fight Ebola, and make mosquito models from pipecleaners.

A big thank you to the two secondary school pupils who helped on the day, and to Catrin Moore in Tropical Medicine and the PE team at the Jenner Institute who provided ideas and resources.
