This article assessed that the WHO roadmap is still globally relevant. However, new priorities have emerged, particularly pertinent to less resourced countries where health systems have competing priorities. The effectiveness of public health measures should also be prioritised. Research during transmission period and questions outside the transmission period should be carried out to ensure we are prepared for a future outbreak.
