Postdoctoral Researcher

Na’ima has a background in global health and pharmacy. She currently holds a postdoctoral research position with the Health Systems Collaborative, Centre for Global Health Research in the Nuffield Department of Medicine. Her current research focuses on examining impacts of health system governance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), as part of the British Academy Just Transitions for AMR Convening project. Naima holds a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Clinical Medicine with a Health Systems & Policy Research focus, and an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine (IHTM), from the University of Oxford. Her DPhil thesis examined governance arrangements for the implementation of medical devices and equipment in Kenya.

In addition to over a decade of experience supporting public health programmes in Nigeria, Na’ima has been involved in global health research projects across countries in Africa, Asia and the UK. She has experience in using qualitative and quantitative research methods, policy analysis, as well as producing different forms of evidence synthesis and reviews. She has worked with World Health Organisation (WHO) regional offices and collaborating centres in evidence reviews and guideline development.

Na’ima also has extensive experience in teaching and student support across postgraduate taught programmes in Oxford, including working as Research and Teaching Associate for the MSc IHTM Course, where she was involved in course coordination, teaching and supervision of MSc students. She enjoys supporting postgraduate students and has served as co-Chair of the NDM Student Committee, Executive Member of the Oxford Africa Student Society (AfriSoc), Tutor, Global Health and Epidemiology for several Colleges, and teaches academic writing for the AfOx/Mastercard Scholarship program.

Her research interests include maternal and newborn health, strengthening health systems/primary care, health policy and improving governance within global health.
