IHTM Course Director, Proochista Ariana, travelled to Seychelles in October to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the University of Oxford and the University of Seychelles, with the focus on research, education and evidenced-based policymaking.

Dignitaries sign the MoU between the University of Oxford and the University of Seychelles

At the signing of the MoU, Ms. Joëlle Perreau, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, were joined by dignitaries including the Minister of Health, Peggy Vidot, Minister of Education, Justin Valentin, and the British High Commissioner, Jeff Glekin.

The Health and Education collaboration between the two universities is focused on enhancing research capacity and creating learning opportunities within Seychelles' Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to contribute to generating evidence that informs policies and programmes.

The MoU follows four years of IHTM working in partnership with the Seychelles Ministry of Health with initiatives including workshops and an exchange of trainees. Dr Justin Zelime (Dean of Faculty of Arts & Social Development), University of Seychelles, and IHTM alumna, Sylvie Pool (IHTM 2020) were instrumental in the set-up of this collaboration.

Speaking about the partnership, Proochista Ariana said,

We are delighted to formalise this partnership with colleagues in the Seychelles and look forward to the impact our collaboration will bring.
