After eight weeks embedded in global health projects, IHTM students have returned to Oxford, bringing with them a wealth of new experiences from their research placements from around the world.

IHTM post-placement presentations July 2025. Talbot Hall, LMH.

This year’s cohort worked with leading institutes and organisations across diverse settings, including Bangkok, Thailand; Bali, Indonesia; Campo Grande in Brazil; Papua New Guinea; the Seychelles; and Oxford, UK.

Their projects spanned a range of topics, addressing urgent global health challenges and seeking to contribute to innovative and impactful solutions. These included evaluating strategies for preventing Thalassaemia in high-risk populations in Thailand, conducting a systematic review of Chikungunya virus lineages to better understand its epidemiology, and tackling the ethical implications of AI use in e-pharmacy and telemedicine.

Returning to Oxford, students presented an overview of their research to peers and faculty, engaging in rigorous discussion and receiving constructive feedback. These sessions, held over 3 days (23rd - 25th July 2025), are designed to help students sharpen their focus as they prepare their 10,000-word dissertations, the capstone of their IHTM journey, due in August.

The research placement is a key component of the IHTM course, offering students the chance to apply classroom learning to real-world problems, develop professional networks, and make meaningful contributions to global health. Travel and accommodation are fully funded, ensuring that students can immerse themselves in their projects and the communities they serve.
