The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust anounces that the call for abstracts towards the 5th Medical and Veterinary Virus Research Symposium, October 26th – 27th, 2017, is open. This year’s theme is One Health – Accelerating Virus Research in East Africa. You are invited to submit presentations related to research involving viruses of medical and veterinary importance.

Geneva Health Forum panel on the elimination of NTDs and the new WHO Roadmap

The WHO 2030 NTD Roadmap has just been launched, and a recent Geneva Health Forum panel took that as its starting point to discuss the possibility of eliminating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Professor Philippe Guérin, IDDO’s Director, joined co-panellists Dr Amy Fall, the Global Health Medical for Africa Region Lead at Sanofi, Dr Mwele Malecela, Director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases at the WHO, and Dr Nathalie Strub-Wourgaft, Medical Director at Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) back in November 2020.

KWTRP highlights health equity issues during Equity Week

Convened by the International Budget Partnership, Equity Week brings together stakeholders from national and county government, community groups and other agencies to reflect on equity and equality issues particularly in resource mobilization and distribution in the country. KWTRP highlighted issues of disability, access to healthcare, financial risk protection, mapping variations and vulnerabilities in young children

Need for better community engagement during global health emergencies

A workshop held in Dakar, Senegal, 7-18 March, highlighted the need for better community engagement during global health emergencies. An international group of experts in community engagement for health research identified urgent measures to foster involvement of local communities in emergency research, such as the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo.

After MQPH 2018, new collaborations to fight substandard medicines

Over 200 delegates travelled from more than 50 countries to attend the first ever conference on Medicine Quality and Public Health (MQPH 2018) in Oxford from 23-28 Sept. The conference, at Keble College, brought together experts in pharmacy, public health, chemistry, law, sociology, governance and ethics, from medicines regulatory authorities, academia, pharmaceutical industry, NGOs, and international organisations.
