The tenth cohort of IHTM students has begun to settle into their studies and are enjoying the camaraderie of the course and life in Oxford.

IHTM students taught in classroom November 2024

It is a very busy term with a significant workload but the students are enthusiastically embracing their time in the Pitt Rivers classroom.

This week began with Dr Prabin Dahal teaching an introductory overview of cohort studies, part of the core module, Paradigms and Tools in Global Health (PTGH). This module covers epidemiology and statistics, health economics, social sciences for health and evaluation, as well as R and Reproducible Research. Students are taught to interpret and critically engage with statistical, epidemiological, health economics, qualitative and mixed methods evidence in global health as well as health finance and management. They cover the use of different methods (and combinations of methods) to address various global health research questions and how to use the various methods appropriately to address global health questions.

The teaching session was followed by questions and a discussion on the potential challenges involved in interpretation of results from cohort studies.
