RESEARCH
My doctoral research develops an approach to examining flood-related health risk in the Indian Himalayas as an emergent phenomenon — risk that is produced, amplified, dampened, and redistributed through interactions among the flood and the components of the systems for health: healthcare delivery, water and sanitation, food systems, livelihoods, transport, governance, and social networks. I treat these as a complex, dynamic, and interconnected system, attending to the feedbacks and non-linear dynamics through which a flood cascades across its components. The work asks where in the system risk is produced and amplified, where it is dampened, and how it is distributed across populations, geographies, and time, with the aim of identifying leverage points where targeted intervention might shift system-wide outcomes rather than only repair localised damage.
