ACORN Network Manager
Based in Bangkok, Thailand, Jill Hopkins is a medical scientist with the MORU Tropical Health Network’s Cambodia-Oxford Medical Research Unit (COMRU). Currently Manager of the ACORN Network, Jill has worked at COMRU since 2016, first, as the Laboratory Manager and Head of Operations at COMRU based at Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Jill is particularly interested in scientific operations, microbiology laboratory capacity building and AMR surveillance in low-resource settings.
Jill’s research focusses on the Wellcome-funded ACORN (A Clinically Oriented antimicrobial Resistance Network) project, a patient-focussed surveillance network of AMR in low- and middle-income (LMIC) settings. ACORN combines clinical and microbiology data which is then visualised in an interactive dashboard in near real time. This allows timely local utilization of AMR data and assists in filling the gap of high-quality AMR data from LMICs to better inform outcomes and the total burden of AMR. ACORN is currently active in nine countries in Southeast Asia and Africa.
Jill is also an active PhD student at Open University (UK). Her PhD thesis, A patient focused hospital antimicrobial resistance surveillance network in low resource settings in South East Asia and Africa, is supervised by Professor Paul Turner (University of Oxford).
