Marco Liverani
Honorary Visiting Research Fellow in Tropical Medicine
Dr Liverani is a social scientist specialising in health policy and systems, with a focus on health governance and financing, access to care, and health information systems in low- and middle-income countries. His research uses mixed methods to examine how institutions, technologies, and policies shape decision-making and service delivery, placing the needs and perspectives of patients and frontline health workers at the centre. His current work includes the development and evaluation of digital health tools designed to support clinical decision-making in low-resource settings and to empower patients through improved access to information and care pathways.
He has led and collaborated on numerous research projects, particularly in Southeast Asia, generating evidence that has informed national and international health programmes. He has received funding and awards as investigator or co-investigator from the UK Economic and Social Research Council, the UK Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the British Academy, the Asia-Europe Foundation, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
He is an Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at Nagasaki University.
