SMRU is preparing to begin healthcare services at its new clinic in Ruam Thai Phatthana 2 (RTS), Phop Phra District, Tak Province, with final preparations now underway. Construction of Ruam Thai Phatthana and essential utilities is nearly complete, so the clinic can soon meet the surrounding communities’ healthcare needs and accommodate future growth.

As part of the transition, Wang Pha (WPA) Clinic officially ceased services on 15 June 2026. The transfer of clinic equipment and supplies from WPA to RTS began two weeks ago and is progressing smoothly. Staff relocation is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Wang Pha Clinic has been an important part of healthcare along the Thailand–Myanmar border for more than two decades, with up to 100 falciparum malaria cases in a day in the early years. SMRU began antenatal care (ANC) and childbirth services at Wang Pha in 2004, expanding access to essential maternal and child healthcare for migrant and border communities. In Dec 2007, Wang Pha strengthened its services by opening a dedicated birth facility, supporting mothers and newborns, and contributing to improved health outcomes in the area.

To ensure a smooth transition, SMRU continues to work closely with local health authorities and community partners, including local health centres and the Tak Provincial Public Health Office.

The relocation to Ruam Thai Phatthana 2 marks a new chapter in SMRU’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to border communities. The RTS Clinic is scheduled to begin accepting patients on 1 July, ensuring continuity of care while offering improved facilities for patients, staff, and future healthcare services.

As SMRU looks ahead, it also takes this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of the staff, patients, community leaders, and partners who have contributed to the success of Wang Pha Clinic throughout its years of service. Their support and commitment have helped shape a strong foundation for the next chapter of healthcare delivery at RTS.
