Pilar Ramon-Pardo
Lead of the Special Program on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
Dr. Pilar Ramon-Pardo is the lead of the Special Program on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the WHO Regional Office for the Americas. After her degree as a medical doctor and training as a specialist in internal medicine, she obtained her PhD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, with a thesis on resistance to antimicrobials in Latin America. She accounts 20 years of experience working for STI / HIV / AIDS and TB programs in different countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. In the period 2008-2016, she was responsible for the clinical management and infection prevention and control in the context of outbreaks and public health emergencies, such as Chikungunya and Zika; leading simultaneously the technical cooperation on AMR surveillance and containment in PAHO. Since 2018, she coordinates the planning, programming, and implementation of regional strategies to support the Latin America and the Caribbean countries to develop and expand their national responses to AMR.
